PDF files versus the finished product

So I have been struggling with the question, should I make the finished product or sell a PDF file of the design? PDF files seem to be quite popular on Etsy so I thought I should just join the bandwagon. Then the more I though about it, the more I realized that I will no longer have control of the design. Too many times I've seen someone's else design being sold and the original owner is not given credit for it. Also the amount of work that goes into creating a PDF file is quite extensive. It was not as easy as I thought it would be. Many designs make perfect sense in my head, but how can I put them down for someone else to be able to understand then and have clear and concise directions? These are still nagging questions for me.

Another issue is that pdf files can be shared with friends and family and at that point the designer looses revenue. So what is a jewelry designer to do? Make the finished product? Well that is good, but the market is saturated with jewelry at this point. How can I make mine stand out? I tried social media but I get lose in the sea of tweets. Facebook hasn't been much help either. I am out of ideas and have a on of finished products. I guess that is what happens when you become addicted to beads. I will have to live another lifetime to be able to wear all my jewelry. If any of you ladies have any ideas feel free to advise me.
